Ottawa Times - January 95DISABLED CENTER TO BE DISCUSSEDPeople who believe the disabled in the area need a place to get help can make their opinions known at a Jan. 25 public forum. The Statewide Independent Living Council will conduct the forum to determine to what extent the disabled need services in LaSalle, Bureau, Putnam, Marshall and Stark counties. The forum will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Illinois valley Banquet Center, 920 Second St., LaSalle. This is the first step in considering whether the area will receive priority for a center designed to help the disabled lead normal, independent lives. Pushing to get a C.I.L in this area is
Ottawan G. Pat Riley, the president of the Starved Rock Coalition of
Citizens with Disabilities in Illinois. "The whole intent is to enable
people to live independent and productive lives," Riley said. "This area
has been neglected in terms of services to the disabled". The center
likely would be an office where the disabled could get or find services
such as legal help, counseling, guidance on how to apply for benefits and
training to live independently. It also helps families of the disabled and
works in the community to support public concerns of the disabled. . . |
