Center for Independent Living
A steering committee met January 3 to organize efforts to establish a Center for
Independent in the LaSalle-Peru area.
Centers for CIL's are local, not-for-profit, non-residential, service and
advocacy organizations which serves persons of any age with any type of
disability. CIL's are controlled by people with disabilities and embrace the
philosophy that "all persons, regardless of disability, have the right and
responsibility to make their own choices, to live as independently as possible
in the community and to participate as equal and full citizens in their
community and society. CIL's advance this philosophy through core services
offered in information and referral, peer support, independent living skills
training, advocacy and other services specifically designed to met community
needs. . .
A training seminar to explain the services of CIL's, is tentatively
scheduled for February, 1998. Upcoming events will be publicized.
It was suggested during the 13th. annual conference in Springfield that the
Center for Independent Living be named the "G. Patrick Riley Center for
Independent Living"
The CIL will be servicing the Counties of: LaSalle, Bureau, Putnam,
Marshall and Stark.
